
“Why not integrate our banks into our food stores?” For the Co-operative Group, the UK’s largest consumer cooperative, this was the Aha! moment that cracked a strategic quandary: How to create cross-selling opportunities while adding convenience and value to loyal customer relationships?
Since countless Co-Operative Food store shoppers were also customers of its bank, marrying the two brand channels seemed a natural fit.
The challenge: Capturing busy shoppers in the midst of checking items off grocery lists.
NewGround rose to the occasion by designing a head-turning in-store branch model centered on the customer experience and infused with Co-operative visual branding. Utilizing every inch of the space’s small footprint, the branch design features a greeter station, ATM vestibule, private consulting area, mobile merchandising kiosk, and hospitality bar serving Fair Trade Coffee.
For shoppers passing by, the in-store branch not only offers a convenient banking pit-stop but also a casual, café-style oasis for a relaxing time-out. So whether it’s food shopping or financial services, everyone leaves fulfilled.
