The Challenge

Each client we partner with has different priorities and a different kind of brand and atmosphere they seek to convey. For some clients, like Dior, that brand has to reflect the deep luxury and high-end nature of the very product they are selling. Retail spaces must encompass the idea and “feel” of the product they are selling, and the partners that build those retail spaces must treat those ideas with the same level of respect. Once a partnership with NewGround had begun, started through industry connections, one thing became abundantly clear: every aspect of this project would need to be carefully coordinated, communicated, and planned to organize and deliver on the high-end nature of Dior’s space and branding standards. NewGround was the perfect fit to serve as Dior’s architect of record for the project.

The Journey

NewGround’s ability to coordination and facilitate communication among the design teams quickly became a key benefit to the project, as Dior’s design partners were located in such places as Paris, Manhattan and Milan. As a testament to our ability to coordinate, our teams worked together to navigate different time zones and language barriers to ensure communication stayed strong. Goals were clearly stated, and elements of the project were discussed, strategized, and revised until all parties were in alignment. The space had already been picked out ahead of time, but discussing city permits, working with tight deadlines, coordinating scheduling and more all required strong communication.

As a luxury retail client, it was important that no detail was overlooked when it came to designing these spaces for Dior. From the lighting that specially highlights the product to the Italian stone cladding, imported from overseas, coordination and planning was necessary to ensure all potential delays were minimized. Other factors that played into the development of the design for the boutiques meant that the team needed to understand the store operating protocols, security standards, and the expectations of store operations. This level of understanding meant that systems, such as occupancy sensors, security grates, display cases, specialty millwork, and many details the average customer wouldn’t even notice, but are still vitally important, were all thoughtfully developed together. Overall, everything came together to form a beautiful and luxurious final project that both NewGround and Dior can be proud of.

The Destination

From planning security features to ensuring that the lighting followed city guidelines, NewGround made sure that no detail, no matter how small, was ignored. A space represents a company’s brand; it’s a physical representation of their products. For a brand as luxurious and high-end as Dior, we needed to meet their specific product needs and handle the product with grace and care. Through strategy and coordination, we were able to do just that.
